Community Ownership and Development - Towards Sustainable Livelihoods!

Manori CSA with the help of CCO staff had a concept clarity session on Bal Sansad at Uttan, Dongri, Pali, Manori, Chowk and Gorai to form new batches for the current academic year 2018-19. These sessions took place from the 6 th  to the 13 th  of June 2018 and 12 - 40 children from various zones participated. Through different games and group activities they discussed the basics of the concept and the expected duties and responsibilities. The resource person interacted with the children and explained that by joining a Bal Sansad they would have opportunities to participate in various activities and through that develop their personality, improve communication skills, respect the view of others, build a sense of responsibility, enhance their general knowledge, etc. Further, the children were asked to suggest the activities that they wanted to be included in the sessions. CSA facilitated a project review meeting between Misereor (a funding agency) and a farmers group of beneficiaries from Prerana (Community Centre at Dongri, Bhayander West) on 16th Feb 2017. During the review the farmers were advised on the need to preserve and promote their traditional seeds on the farms. One of the farmers Mr. Edwin Nunes took the recommendation seriously and went around various centres at the taluka and local area to meet farmers and discuss on the local varieties of grains grown. He approached CSA to identify sources from where he could find the seeds. CSA Staff guided him to approach an agricultural research centre in Dahanu Taluka. From here Mr. Edwin was able to obtain the 5 kilograms of the local variety of red paddy. He cultivated these seeds on a pilot basis on his own farm and has been able to harvest around 250 kgs of this rice from the 5 kgs. Balsansad Rally on cleanliness and Health at Dongri and Tarodi Village Date: 25 th Sep. 17 Venue: Dongri and Tarodi Total No. 150 Topic: Awareness rally on Health and uncleanliness. On third day of Diwali camp as per discussed by Balsansad children we had the rally from Tarodi to Dongri. Total 150 Children along with Core Committee members participated in the rally.   The purpose behind the rally to create awareness among the people related Health and cleanliness.   Children themselves took the responsibility to prepare the posters and the slogans base on the theme of rally.
