21st Sept,2017-Bal Sansad Session-Food Security Act

On 21st Sep, 2017, between 10.30 am to 12.30 pm the Bal Sansad Session for Food Security Act started with the Bal Sansad prayer, at the Gorai Church Hall addressing a group of 45 children. Ms. Nasim the speaker for the session welcomed everyone, followed by ice breakers games. The children were divided into 4 groups where they had to introduce themselves, and each child was given a different type of chocolate. Subsequently, Ms. Nasim questioned them about their Basic needs & Rights, who fulfilled their needs and who is responsible for it. Children gave various answers for these question. Following which Ms. Nasim explained them the importance of food for our body.

Health as a responsibility is taken by government as per the Food Security Act.

Ms. Nasim circulated a couple of questions among the four groups on the related topics and were asked to discuss it among themselves, for e.g.
1)      The type of  Ration Card used in their household.
2)      The uses of a Ration Card?
3)      On whose name is the Ration card issued?
4)     The type of Mid-Day Meal provided in school, who provides it and where does it come from
5)     Which type of food is consumed at home?
6)      Is it good to waste food?
7)      How are we responsible for wasting food?

Presentations were taken group wise and  Ms. Nasim elaborated the questions & answers for a better understanding. She then explained in detail about the subject, the 4 types of Ration card we use etc. The type of food we consume at home which  are healthy and food which does not contain any proteins or vitamins.  She therefore concluded with the necessary intake of food which contain vitamins & proteins such as vegetables, Milk, eggs, Cereals etc which are both healthy and nutritious. She even advised on ignoring outside food.

As per the Food Security Act given by the government for children between the age group of 6 to 14 years, it is necessary to give a Mid-Day meal. It is important to check if the Mid-day Meal provided by the government is really healthy for the health of children. In case it is not a complain should be reported against it on the toll free number given by the government 1800-11-4000.

After the session Ms. Nasim took a brief evaluation on the topic.
