The structure and law pertaining to remand home and information about the activities carried on in the remand home were briefly discussed by the PSI. He explained with examples about the remand home and the reason of their establishment for a Juvenile delinquent. He said that a Remand Home is a place where a person who has been arrested and charged with a criminal offence until their trial is detained. It is an observation home for the Juvenile Delinquent where changes are brought in the behavior of these juveniles. He further said that the Juvenile Delinquency is participation in illegal behavior or the habitual committing of criminal acts or offences by minors below the age of 18 years.

He also explained the protection against Child Sexual Abuse Act 2012 (POSCO Act 2012) where there is a separate legal framework for children accused of committing crimes. It also applies to vulnerable children who need the government to take care of them even if it is for a short while and for children who need help to get a better and fulfilling life. The law provides for a number of mechanisms including adoption, sponsorship and foster care.

The CCO staff & children then questioned the PSI regarding the possible penalties and punishments by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to which he explained that there is no punishment as such in JJ Act however, it does lists a set of dispositional orders that can be passed by the JJBs such as giving the child a firm warning, letting the child go home and simultaneously counseling the parents, ordering the child to attend group counseling sessions, ordering the child to perform supervised community service, Ordering the parents or guardians to pay fine and releasing the child on probation.

The Bal Sansad members have got an understanding about the structure and functions of Remand Home. The children came to know the meaning of Juvenile Justice Board, and Indian Police Service. They are now aware that in order to be a sub inspector they must complete their graduation.
